Policy Walk: ''Phnom Penh’s New Reality''
Welcome to Policy Walk: ''Phnom Penh’s New Reality''
Join Future Forum for an immersive Policy Walk as we tackle one of Phnom Penh’s most pressing urban challenges: Phnom Penh's New Reality: Engineering Infrastructure for a Livable Future.
Our city is growing fast, but the infrastructure meant to support that growth is struggling to keep pace. Today, residents face flood-prone streets during the rainy season, aging drainage systems that can't handle stormwater runoff, and a road network stretched thin by rapid urban expansion. Compounding this, unchecked development on former floodplains and wetlands has quietly stripped away the natural buffers that once absorbed excess water, leaving entire districts exposed.
This policy walk is designed to move us from observation to action. It brings together citizens, engineers, urban planners, and policymakers to experience these challenges firsthand and co-create solutions. We'll explore how targeted infrastructure investment — resilient drainage, smarter stormwater management, and equitable planning across both inner-city and peri-urban areas — can reclaim livability for every resident, not just those closest to the center.
